MEDIA, Pa.—A suburban Philadelphia man has been ordered to stand trial in the beating death of his 6-year-old nephew last fall.

The Delaware County Daily Times ( says 38-year-old Paul Adams Jr. of Wallingford waived his preliminary hearing Friday on first-degree murder and related charges.

Prosecutors allege that he beat Tyreece Charlow for 45 minutes in November because he wouldn't get his school clothes ready for the next day. The child was pronounced dead the following morning. Prosecutors said Adams is a fourth-degree black belt in karate.

Adams was already charged with first- and third-degree murder, criminal homicide and possessing instruments of crime, and prosecutors said Friday they were adding counts of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child and unlawful restraint. Adams' formal arraignment is scheduled March 6.
