PHILADELPHIA—A former campaign manager for a Philadelphia city councilwoman has admitted stealing more than $100,000 from the campaign and a labor union's political arm.

John McDaniel's federal mail fraud plea Thursday stems from his work for Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown and a Laborers Union political action committee, the Progressive Agenda PAC.

The 39-year-old McDaniel faces a potential 15- to 21-month sentence under federal guidelines, and has agreed to pay restitution.

But his plea agreement does not require him to cooperate with investigators. Sentencing is set for May 14.

McDaniel has also lost his $87,000-a-year patronage job directing volunteers at Philadelphia International Airport.

McDaniel's lawyer, Charles M. Gibbs, says McDaniel accepts responsibility and looks forward to moving on with his life.
