PITTSBURGH—The trial has begun for a Pittsburgh police officer who's facing drunken driving charges in the death of a woman who was riding on the back of his motorcycle.

The trial began Monday, and prosecutors say 31-year-old Adam Lewis allegedly had a blood alcohol level of 0.11 percent at the time of the Sept. 2010 crash that killed 28-year-old Jessica Marie Lojak, of Fawn.

Lewis was allegedly speeding when he crashed head-on into a sport utility vehicle. The driver of the SUV told police he tried to veer off the road to avoid the motorcycle.

Lewis' defense attorney Bill Difenderfer says alcohol wasn't a substantial factor in the crash.
