The Penn State York men's basketball team is just two wins away from a Penn State University Athletic Conference championship.

The local Lions earned a PSUAC Tournament semifinal berth on Tuesday with an 80-64 victory over visiting Penn State Hazleton.

The PSY men will now take on Penn State Mont Alto in the semifinals on Saturday at Penn State Beaver. Penn State Mont Alto beat Penn State Fayette, 68-64, in its quarterfinal on Tuesday.

Penn State York and Penn State Mont Alto split two regular-season games. PSY won at home, 82-56, but lost at Mont Alto, 64-61.

In Tuesday's win over Hazleton, the home team led by 17 at the half (41-24) and went on to capture the victory. Logan Steckel led the home team with 18 points, while Tyler Martin knocked in 17, including an 8-for-11 effort from the floor. Xavier Smith scored 13 points. Ben Todd scored 12 points, including a 6-for-8 night from the floor, and grabbed a team-high 15 rebounds. Josh Jamsion added 10 points.

The Yorkers improved to 19-6 overall. Hazleton dropped to 11-13. Mont Alto will enter Saturday's game at 14-11.

The PSY women weren't as fortunate, dropping a 66-44 decision at Penn State Fayette in their PSUAC quarterfinal.

The visitors trailed 34-18 at the half and were unable to recover. Courtney Riggs led the visitors with 15 points. Lauren Riggleman knocked in 12 points.


The Yorkers dropped to 9-13 overall. Fayette improved to 13-9.
