A pregnant woman escaped life-threatening injuries Tuesday when she was attacked by a knife-wielding man outside her Hellam Township home.

Hellam Township Police Chief Mark Sowers said the woman -- whose name has not been released -- was slashed twice as she walked out of her home in the first block of East Forry Avenue. She suffered a slash wound to her face and one to her arm, he said.

"They are not life-threatening," he said of the wounds.

It happened about noon, according to the York County 911 Center.

"She was letting her dogs out," Sowers said. "In the process of letting her dogs out, she encountered someone at the door."

A man wearing a hooded sweatshirt attacked her, the chief said.

Police searched the area but could not find the attacker, Sowers said.

The woman was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment, where police were interviewing her on Tuesday afternoon, the chief said.

Anyone with information about the attack is asked to call 911 and ask for the Hellam Township dispatcher.

Check back later for more details.
