The thief or thieves who stole two female mallard ducks from a Fawn Grove home earlier this week have left the water birds' male counterparts in a fowl mood.

Sometime between 5:30 p.m. Sunday and 6 a.m. Monday, the two female mallards were stolen from their secure pen at the home of Robert and Kathleen Thisse on East Main Street, according to state police.

The ducks are valued at $20, police said.

Kathleen Thisse said her family simply calls them "The Girls." They are common-looking mallards, she said, and have bluish-purple stripes on their wings.

The Thisses also have two male mallard ducks.

"The two males are very upset that the females are gone," she said.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the ducks or who stole them can call state police at (717) 428-1011.
