A York County man was one of five arrested statewide on unrelated child pornography charges, the state Attorney General's Office announced Thursday.

Joseph James Bailey, 42, of 2681 Carnegie Road, Apartment 103, in Springettsbury Township, allegedly used a peer-to-peer network to make files of prepubescent children engaged in sexual acts, according to a news release from the office.

Authorities downloaded five files and identified Bailey as the source through the computer's IP address, the release said.

Police seized numerous computers, external hard drives, cellphones and tablets from his apartment. A computer forensics team found 20 thumbnails of apparent child pornography on the devices, the release says.

Authorities also found a loaded handgun at Bailey's apartment, which he is prohibited from possessing because of a previous conviction, the release says.

Now he's charged with five counts each of distribution of child pornography, possession of child pornography and one count each of criminal use of a communication facility and person not to possess a firearm, a news release from the office says.

He is free on $5,000 bail, according to court records.

Bailey will next appear in court on at 9 a.m. Friday, May 23 for a preliminary hearing before district judge Barry Bloss Jr.

Court records to not list an attorney for Bailey, who could not be reached for comment.
