Due to the intense cold, Williams Grove Speedway has canceled its planned season opener slated for Friday night.

Williams Grove will try again to get the 2013 season started next Friday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m., when the 410 sprint cars are joined by the super sportsmen. It will be the first area show of the season for the sportsmen.

Originally slated to open their season on Friday, March 22, the 358 sprints will return for their first show of the year on Friday, April 12.

The Williams Grove Saturday Series opens on Saturday, April 20.

Track officials at Selinsgrove Speedway & Raceway Park also announced Thursday evening that racing action for this Friday and Saturday was canceled.

The cancellation was the second weather-related closing of the early 2013 season. The Snyder County half-mile oval will swing back into action at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 30, with the first four-division show of the regular season, featuring the 358 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks and roadrunners.

To celebrate the Easter holiday, the speedway will hold an Easter egg hunt for kids prior to the start of Saturday's racing program and hand out candy to the first 100 kids. Track gates will open at 4 p.m.
