An inauguration ceremony and gala concert will officially welcome York College's fourth president to campus next weekend.

Pamela Gunter-Smith will be officially installed during an inauguration ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, in the Waldner Performing Arts Center.

The division of music will present a gala concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, also at the Waldner Center.

The gala will feature several musical tributes to Gunter-Smith and include music faculty, alumni and students performing classical and jazz selections.

The concert will feature musical numbers by Eric Whitacre, Randall Thompson and Leonard Bernstein.

Gunter-Smith began her term as president in July. Before moving to York, she was the provost and academic vice president at Drew University.

Gunter-Smith said in an August interview she supports York College's focus of being student-centered.

Gunter-Smith also takes pride in the fact that York College's tuition is 50 percent less than that of many private institutions.

The inauguration and gala are free and open to the public.
