The York College women's basketball team used solid defense and a resurgent offense to down Goucher College 75-45 in a non-conference contest in Towson on Tuesday night.
The Spartans improved to 5-0, while the Gophers fell to 1-4. York is ranked 15th in NCAA Division III by both the USA Today/ESPN Coaches and the d3hoops.com polls.
York junior forward Kristen Haley led all scorers with 19 points and nine rebounds in just 21 minutes of work. Fellow junior Kelsey Murphy was the other Spartan in double figures with 10 points. She also had four rebounds, three blocked shots, two assists and two steals. Aja Wallpher contributed eight points, six assists, and four steals for the Spartans.
The Spartans shot a season-high 42.4 percent from the floor while they converted an efficient 5-of-11 (45.5 percent) from 3-point range. York was 19-of-23 (82.6 percent) from the foul line.
The Gophers shot 31 percent for the game. York has now held all five opponents under 40 percent shooting from the floor.
The Spartans held a 43-38 edge on the glass despite missing leading rebounder Brittany Hicks, who did not dress because of an injury.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they open their Capital Athletic Conference campaign at St. Mary's College at 2 p.m.
