MIDDLETOWN – The beat goes on for the nationally ranked York College women's basketball team.

The Spartans took to the road on Wednesday for a Capital Athletic Conference contest at Penn State Harrisburg. After a sluggish first half, York rolled to a 63-30 conference win.

The Spartans improved to 18-0 overall and 10-0 in the conference. The Lions, losers of six straight, fell to 5-13 overall and 1-9 in their first year in the CAC. York is ranked eighth in the nation in NCAA Division III in both the USA Today/Women's Basketball Coaches Association Poll and the d3hoops.com poll.

The first half was not a work of art for York, which led by just six with 4:10 remaining in the half. Senior guard Kelsey Murphy hit a triple from the top of the key to kick-start an 11-0 run to end the half as the Spartans took a 34-17 lead to the intermission. The outcome was never in doubt after that.

The Spartans were again paced by the duo of York Catholic High School graduate Brittany Hicks and Kristen Haley. Hicks poured in a game-high 18 points with six rebounds in 28 minutes. She was 6 for 10 from the floor, 2 for 5 from 3-point range and 4 for 4 from the stripe. Haley added a double-double with 14 points and a 10 rebounds and also had a pair of blocked shots. Haley was 8 for 9 from the line. Jess Selby added 12 points on four 3-point field goals. Murphy contributed seven points, four rebounds and a season-high six assists.

The Spartans limited the Lions to 18 percent shooting for the game.

The win sets up Saturday's big CAC showdown with Christopher Newport in Newport News. The Captains' only loss in CAC play came at Wolf Gymnasium, 75-63, on Dec. 7. CNU, which is ranked in the top 20 in both NCAA Division III polls, is 15-2 overall and 8-1 in the CAC. Tip time at the Freeman Center is 2 p.m.

York College men win in OT: York College senior Mike Mathews hit a put back with just over six seconds left in overtime to lift the Spartan men's basketball team to a 61-60 CAC win at PSU Harrisburg on Wednesday. The go-ahead shot is Mathews' second game-winner for the Spartans this season.

The victory is the Spartans' first road win of the year. They improved to 3-15 overall and 2-8 in the CAC. Harrisburg fell to 6-12 and 3-7. The teams split their regular season series with the road team winning both games.

Mathews' winner was made possible by his layup with 15 seconds left in regulation to force OT.

Mathews led the Spartans with 19 points, eight rebounds, three blocked shots and two assists. Dalton Myers added 12 points and eight rebounds for York, while freshman Brad Wesner added 11 big points off the bench.
