Jacobus: Free fireworks Thursday, July 4, at dusk at Jacobus Community Park, with events starting with the children's parade at 9:15 a.m. Food, crafts, games and music all day. Information: 717-428-3983 or

Red Lion: Free fireworks Wednesday, July 3, at dusk at Horn Field, with live music by Bluestone Bluegrass Band from 7 p.m. onward. Car show, flea market and other fun starting at 8 a.m. Thursday, July 4, at Fairmont Park. Information: 717-244-6896 or

Springettsbury Township: Free fireworks at 9:15 p.m. Sunday, June 30, following the 7 p.m. Vocal Trash concert at the township park amphitheater. Information: 717-505-0406 or

Stewartstown: Free fireworks Wednesday, July 3, at 9:30 p.m. at the Stewartstown Community Fairgrounds, with live music by the JC Fisher Band and concessions from 7 p.m. onward. Information: 717-993-2255 or

York City: Free fireworks Thursday, July 4, at 9:30 p.m. at Sovereign Bank Stadium, with gates opening at 5:30 p.m. and featuring a family-friendly carnival, playground, car show and movie. Live music by the U.S. Army Jazz Ambassadors from 8 p.m. onward. Information:

Going to the fair

The 15th annual Mason-Dixon Fair at the Delta fairgrounds along Route 74 runs July 8-13 with the midway opening each night at 5. The fun includes live music, rides, animal exhibits, tractor pulls, children's activities, the Karaoke Idol contest and more. Admission: $4-$6 for ages 7 and up, free for 6 and under. Beloved beagle

The Hanover Little Theatre closes out the season with "Snoopy" the musical, a lighthearted romp with the "Peanuts" gang. Shows start at 8 p.m. July 11-13 and 18-20 and at 2 p.m. July 14 at the theater, 360 Blooming Grove Road, Hanover. Tickets: $14. Information: 717-637-5297 or

Add muscle

The 12th annual Musclecar Madness at the York Reunion will feature drag racing history, a car show, legendary racers, memorabilia, activities for the kids and more. The show runs from I to 8 p.m. Friday, July 12, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at the York Expo Center. Admission: $15 for adults, free for children under 12. Information: 717-757-2720 or

Stage sensation

Brace for belly laughs when the musical comedy "The Producers" arrives on the main stage at York Little Theatre, 27 S. Belmont St., Spring Garden Township. Dig into reading

The York County Libraries' Dig It! Faire highlights summer reading club fun with outdoor excitement from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at Gifford Pinchot State Park. The all-ages adventures include meeting live animals and costumed characters, seeing puppet shows, making crafts to take home and more. Food available, but picnic lunches welcome. Scared silly

The annual Horrible Saturday spooks and scares return to The York Emporium, 343 W. Market St., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 13. Both the Jefferson Carnival and the Stewartstown Carnival open July 15 and run through July 20 with rides, games, live music, food and more. The Jefferson Carnival at 57 Hanover St. raises funds for the Jefferson Sportsmen's Association. Enter the 'Dream'

Stomp fest

The Indian Steps Stomp Music Festival is an all-day extravaganza featuring nine bands and family-friendly fun. Storm brewing

Theatre Under the Trees returns with free performances of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" at parks throughout York County from July 26 through Aug. 4. Bromberg's blues

'Shrek' times two

The beloved green ogre will take center stage in two local productions of "Shrek: The Musical" in July.
